All of our syrup is made right here on our 5th generation family farm in Jeffersonville, Vermont. In addition to making delicious organic maple syrup my husband and I along with our 4 kids milk a herd of Jersey cows, and run a Flat stone quarry (Jeffersonvillequarry.com). We’re busy, busy, busy!
5 Generations of Farming and sugaring is in our blood. My husbands’ family by way of hardworking Irish immigrants, and mine by the way of Native Americans. Working with Animals, Rock and Trees comes very natural to us, and there’s nothing we’d rather be doing. The picture below is of my husbands Grandfather working hard on an arch that was still being used, (believe it or not!!), by his son, Rex Gillilan right up until last year. This year Rex and his Son have built a new sugarhouse with a new shiny rig. We’re so excited for them! It wasn’t an easy decision to lay the old rig to rest, but in the name of ease and progress it had to be done. Still, we look back fondly at our history, and those memories keep us true to our legacy.
And Yes, he’s smoking a big ol’ pipe. The only thing anyone worried about back then was making delicious Maple syrup. And, Surprise! we all lived to tell the tale.
